Why Stay in Jinhae?
The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival (Gunhangje Festival) is South Korea's largest spring celebration, drawing over two million visitors annually to this former naval port city south of Busan. With over 350,000 cherry trees, Jinhae has the highest concentration of cherry blossoms in the country, creating tunnels of pale pink that rival anything in Japan.
Yeojwacheon Stream, Jinhae's most iconic cherry blossom location, features hundreds of trees arching over a gentle waterway, their petals falling like snow onto the surface. The Romance Bridge and the streams lined with cherry trees and night illuminations create one of Asia's most photographed spring scenes.
Hotels in Jinhae itself are limited, so many visitors stay in nearby Changwon (20 minutes by bus) or Busan (1 hour by train). Changwon offers modern hotels with good transport links, while Busan provides a wider range of accommodation and the chance to combine cherry blossoms with Korea's best beach city.
The festival includes military band performances (honouring Jinhae's naval heritage), street food markets, evening illumination shows, and the striking sight of cherry blossoms against the backdrop of naval ships at the Jinhae Naval Academy. Gyeonghwa Station, a small rail stop framed entirely by cherry trees, is one of Korea's most beloved spring images.
