Why Stay in Val d'Isère?
Val d'Isère is one of the French Alps' most prestigious ski resorts, renowned for its reliable snow, challenging terrain, and charming village atmosphere. Connected to Tignes via the Espace Killy ski area, the resort offers 300 km of pistes across two valleys with skiing up to 3,450 metres on the Pisaillas glacier — guaranteeing snow conditions from late November to early May.
The village centre retains genuine Savoyard character with stone-and-slate chalets, narrow streets, and a traditional church. Hotels along the main street are within walking distance of the Olympique gondola and the legendary Face de Bellevarde downhill course (host of 1992 Olympics and 2009 World Championships). The La Daille area offers ski-in/ski-out convenience.
Val d'Isère's dining scene is among the finest in European skiing, with several Michelin-starred restaurants alongside traditional Savoyard establishments serving tartiflette, raclette, and fondue. The après-ski scene is equally celebrated — La Folie Douce at the top of La Daille gondola is one of the Alps' most famous après venues.
For advanced and expert skiers, Val d'Isère is paradise. The off-piste opportunities are vast, with the Grands Couloirs providing some of Europe's steepest in-bounds skiing. Guided backcountry routes to the Grand Motte glacier and the Vallée Perdue are world-class. Beginners and intermediates are also well-served, with the Solaise area offering gentle slopes with stunning views.
